🔎💧 Inside Moonbeam Routed Liquidity: Moonbeam’s GMP precompile serves as an interface for MRL. It helps relay token-bearing messages from GMP protocols to parachains that are linked to Moonbeam using XCMP.
🤔 Why you should care ➡️ This tech makes it possible to move liquidity from external blockchains into other @Polkadot parachains.
For added context, Moonbeam Routed Liquidity (MRL) refers to Moonbeam’s use case as the port parachain for liquidity from external chains into other Polkadot parachains. 🌊
Due to their Substrate base and lack of EVM, some parachains are not equipped to easily bring outside crypto liquidity into the ecosystem. Moonbeam Routed Liquidity is a way for those parachains to tap into bridged liquidity by using the native interoperability components within Polkadot.
This is possible because of ⚙️ general message passing (GMP), where messages with arbitrary data and tokens can be sent across non-parachain blockchains through chain-agnostic GMP protocols. These GMP protocols can combine with Polkadot's XCM messaging system to allow for seamless liquidity routing.
Currently, the GMP precompile is specific to 🌪️ @wormholecrypto , but it can be changed to accommodate other x-chain interoperability providers in the future.
